We're switching pages on Facebook.  "Like" us at our new page and see pics of our members whooping it up, as they are wont to do.

Youth Lens, featuring short videos from IFP Media Arts' youth program, is part of MTN's Saturday night youth block that will be running the rest of August and into September. It is on MTN 16 (cable channel 16 in Minneapolis) on Saturday nights starting around 8:28 (it follows videos from MTN's summer youth media camps).

Filmanthropist

Minnesota's Feel Good Film Fest is Back!
IFP is co-sponsoring The Filmanthropist Project, now in its third year, a Minnesota film contest that highlights positive stories in our communities. Filmmakers of all skill levels are invited to create engaging, 3-5 minute short films that document positive or philanthropic people, organizations or events in their communities while focusing on one individual's work. Filmmakers are encouraged to learn more about the project and register now at www.filmanthropistproject.org. Cash and prizes are awarded to the top three entries. Submission deadline is December 1, 2010. The top 10 films will be screened at a family-friendly awards event in mid-December.

Robert McKee's Story Seminar in Upper Midwest for first time
The Loft Literary Center, in association with the Minnesota Film and TV Board, IFP Minnesota, The Playwrights' Center, The Screenwriters' Workshop, and MCTC, brings Robert McKee's world-famous Story Seminar to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

For over 25 years, Robert McKee's Story Seminar has propelled and inspired over 50,000 screenwriters, filmmakers, TV writers, novelists, industry executives, actors, producers, directors, playwrights, advertising executives, journalists, attorneys and politicians...anyone who works with a narrative story. Participants in Robert McKee's Story Seminar have won:

32 Academy Awards (106+ Nominations);
158 Emmy Awards (500+ Nominations);
21 WGA Awards (77+ Nominations);
and 17 DGA Awards (48+ Nominations).

Running through four intense days (Wed, Sep 29 - Sat, Oct 2, 2010), Robert McKee's course teaches you the principles involved in the art and craft of screenwriting and story design, and proves the essence of good story is unchanging and universal. Whether on the big screen, on television, in novels, on stage and in ALL creative work, everything works in the shadow of classic story design. Robert McKee's seminar sells out worldwide and actors, writers and directors often travel to attend it. There are only 320 seats available for this special event. Don't miss your chance to learn from one of the masters of storytelling!

2. MEMBER NEWS

Mark Wojahn's 'Trampoline' will premiere at SF DocFest in October. DocFest's venue is in the Mission district at the Historic Roxie Theater and they show about 50 documentaries at the festival.

Tiffany Clark's photographs will appear in the show Tomorrow // Today // Yesterday at New York's Panda Gallery. Emily Anne Epstein has curated the event to introduce emerging photojournalists to the art world. Each photojournalist has extensively photographed an individual, capturing the events and emotions of one person's life. The reception will take place at Panda at 132 Chrystie Street from 6-9 on Wednesday, September 1st.  Tiffany's photographic essay "Liliana" is about 16 year old Liliana Servin, from Mexico City, a mother of two who, up until 2 weeks before Tiffany photographing her, has been living on the streets of Mexico City since she was 7 years old. The Daya Shelter located in Cuajimalpa, a small town on the outskirts of Mexico City, has taken Liliana and many other girls in the same situation in to help the girls learn how to take care of their babies and children while also learning "normal" everyday tasks like cooking, laundry, cleaning, going to school, and working to prepare these young mothers how to get back into society. The entire photo essay (as well as other work) can be view on her website: www.TiffanyLClark.com

Jean leads a pretty ordinary life: he spends his days happily between his construction sites and his house, with his loving wife and son. He feels comfortable in his routine. One day, as he’s picking up Kevin from school, he stumbles upon Mademoiselle Chambon, his son’s teacher. She’s discreet, elegant, mesmerizing, unlike any woman he has ever met before. This chance encounter will be a turning point in his well-organized life. An opportunity to change or a folly to regret? (Lorberfilms.com) Click Here to watch MADEMOISELLE CHAMBON trailer.

TAKE-UP PRODUCTIONS
Sound Unseen presents
Burning
@ The Trylon, Wed Sep 01 7:30
(2009, Vincent Moon and Nathanael Le Scouarnac, DVD, 45min) Seminal Scottish rock band Mogwai's first official live concert film release, shot at the band’s sold-out three-night residency at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in April 2009. The film presents itself as a modern urban noir thriller, a black-and-white journey, starting on the same electrifying New York streets Bernard Hermann scored for Martin Scorsese. Moon and Le Scouarnec call their film an “experience of the senses… a lifetime of feelings in just one night.”

Mel Brooks: The Orgasm of Insanity

(1968, 35mm, 88min) Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) and Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) come up with a plan to bilk oversexed old ladies out of millions, by producing the sure-fire flop "Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden." Brooks won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for this film.

JAZZ88's Reel Jazz Film Series
Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser
@ The Trylon, Thu Sep 09 7:30
(1988, Charlotte Zwerin, DVD, 90min) Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser provides an intelligent portrait of this often reclusive, sometimes difficult artist, including telling glimpses of his volatility. Perceptive interviews and glimpses of Monk's sunnier moments provide added depth, yet the real triumph is the generous catalog of classic Monk songs captured on camera.
